Welcome to our Online Zen Community

A space for joining others in the practice of zazen.  We are using this to support each other and maintain our Zen practice during the Covid-19 pandemic while our Centre closed. 

Zen practice and meditation helps us to face these difficult times and we’d like to offer this to anyone who feels it may be of help to them.

The Online Zendo uses the video conferencing application called Zoom. You can join the Online Zendo just by following the links below, it’s really simple. You will be asked to wait in the online waiting room until you are connected to our Zoom room. You are welcome to join for the entire session or any part that you are able to attend. See below for our zazen sessions and classes.

We want you to enjoy your time with the Sangha as much as possible, we are here to support each other in these difficult times.

A monthly standing order, is by far the best for us but any contribution to our overheads would be happily received.

7:30 to 9:30 PM
  • 7:30 to 8:00pm Zazen - chanting the Heart Sutra
  • 8:00 Class and Discussion on the 16 Zen Precepts.


9:00 AM to 12:00
  • Three 45min sessions of Zazen and two 15min sessions of kinhin (walking meditation). A weekly time for more experienced practitioners.

Online Zendo Etiquette

It is extremely important that we all aim toward creating a calm, quiet and strong container in which we can deepen our practice of Zazen during on-line zendo. Please keep the following forms in mind to manifest our practice as One Body and One Mind.

Creating A Strong Container

Organise a space in which you will be sitting zazen. Clean the area around your computer if it is a desktop to create a calm environment in which you can settle. This gives space for a calm mind to manifest. We are connecting and cultivating something deeper that is in harmony with the universe.

Sit stable like a mountain and unmovable.  Do not move and keep your seat. Become one with your breath, body and mind.

There are various ways to sit – in profile or facing away from the computer screen to not be distracted by others that may be moving. Others may choose to “stop their video” or turn off their camera as well. You can also point your camera to an altar, vase of flowers, candle or incense.

Maintain Noble Silence

Please maintain silence throughout on-line zazen to deepen your practice and for others as well. Please arrive in silence and on time, to create harmony and start practice together as one body. Your microphone will be ‘muted’ when you enter.

Begin your sitting by holding your hands in gassho (palms together) bow towards and away from your cushion or chair to prepare your body and mind for zazen.

The Preceptor (host) will sound 3 bells to start zazen. The Preceptor’s microphone will be open throughout, so you will be able to hear and follow the chanting.

At the very end of Zazen (after 2 bells) after the reciting the closing verse hold your hands in gassho and bow.
